Josh Gordon’s Opinion Piece Featured in Akron Beacon Journal | Barberton Community Foundation

Written by Barberton Community Foundation | May 8, 2026

Barberton, Ohio — Barberton Community Foundation Executive Director Josh Gordon recently had an opinion piece accepted for publication by the Akron Beacon Journal, challenging readers to rethink how we define success for students during graduation season.

In his column, Gordon writes:

“The right question for today’s graduates is not, ‘Will I get a job?’ It is, ‘Will my first step put me on a path where my skills and earnings can grow over time?’”

In the piece, Gordon calls on schools, employers, higher education, and community organizations like Barberton Community Foundation to move beyond simply helping students find employment - and instead invest in true career pathways that build skills, stability, and long-term opportunity.
