Be the Reason Barberton Thrives

Our Purpose, Our Community

Barberton Community Foundation exists for one reason: to fund initiatives that help Barberton residents flourish, making the community an even better place to live, work, and play.

We convene community partners, research, and experts to identify needs, gather ideas, and build coalitions that get things done.

We also advocate for the current and future needs of our community at the local, regional, county, state, and federal level.

All of these different aspects of our work is in service to our central mission: Use our endowment and donor funds to strengthen the Barberton community for current and future generations.

We started with $86 million from the sale of Barberton Citizens Hospital and have since awarded more than $111 million in grants and scholarships.

Perpetuity Means Forever

Barberton Community Foundation is designed to exist in perpetuity, ensuring a commitment to improving lives and strengthening the Barberton community forever. Our funds are governed by laws that limit how much can be distributed each year, protecting their long-term value and ensuring we can give back year after year. While grantmaking, awarding scholarships, and investing in programs is a core part of our work, sustaining that impact overtime also means growing and stewarding resources with intention through a strategy we call Get, Grow, Give.

Get

In addition to investment income earned on our endowment, we partner with hundreds of donors who establish funds to honor loved ones, or support causes they care about, as well as individuals who contribute directly to our endowment and more than 120 funds under our stewardship.

Grow

We grow that money through careful investment and stewardship, assuring that its value outpaces the cost of inflation to increase our buying power year after year.

Give

We give as much funding as possible each year for programs, grants, and scholarships that support the economic mobility of Barberton’s residents.

We accept a variety of donations, including:

  • Gift and Estate Planning
  • Cash and cash equivalents
  • Non-cash gifts (e.g. securities, real estate, retirement assets, personal property)
  • Publicly traded securities and mutual funds (including appreciated stock)
  • Readily marketable bonds or other marketable securities
  • RMDs and QCDs (adjusted as needed for tax compliance)
  • Bequests
  • Gifts through wills, trusts, and other beneficiary designations

If you wish to support the Foundation’s work and would like to discuss the best strategy for you, please contact us to set up a meeting.
