In 2025, Barberton Community Foundation awarded grants through three competitive cycles—Education & Workforce Development, Health & Wellness, and Arts & Community—investing in programs that support early learning, strengthen families, and build a more vibrant Barberton community.

$25,000 to Early Childhood Resource Center for the SPARK kindergarten readiness program.
- SPARK (Supporting Partnerships to Assure Ready Kids) is a no-cost, in-home program that pairs families with trained parent partners to build early literacy, math, and social-emotional skills. Monthly visits include hands-on learning activities and take-home materials. Backed by nearly two decades of data, SPARK has demonstrated measurable gains in kindergarten readiness.
$20,000 to Child Guidance & Family Solutions to strengthen the TAPS program for early childhood educators and classrooms.
- TAPS (Toddlers and Preschoolers Succeeding) provides in-classroom coaching and support to help teachers manage challenging behaviors and reduce preschool suspensions and expulsions. The program also engages families, promoting stability and stronger developmental outcomes for young children.
$20,000 to Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio to expand afterschool programming for Barberton youth.
- This funding supports free, high-quality out-of-school-time programming for elementary students, focused on academic success, health and wellness, and character development. Students receive tutoring, meals, and enrichment opportunities in a safe, supportive environment.
$20,000 to Limitless Ambition to support the Purposely Chosen Teen Program, including additional year-end funding.
- Serving girls ages 11–18, this mentorship-based program builds confidence, leadership, and emotional resilience. Facilitated by women with lived experience, participants engage in social-emotional learning and guided discussions that help them navigate challenges and build a strong sense of purpose.
$15,000 to National Inventors Hall of Fame to provide Camp Invention 2025, including additional year-end funding.
- Camp Invention brings hands-on STEM learning to Barberton students through high-energy summer programming led by local educators. The program encourages creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork, and provides scholarships to ensure access for students regardless of financial barriers.
$10,000 to Summit Education Initiative to build the Barberton Preschool Collaborative.
- This initiative connects local preschool providers to align curriculum, share data, and strengthen teaching practices. By creating a more coordinated early learning system, the collaborative aims to improve kindergarten readiness outcomes for nearly 1,000 Barberton children.
$25,000 to Victim Assistance Program to provide advocacy services for Barberton residents impacted by crisis, with additional support from the Stefan-Leightner Endowment Fund.
- Advocates offer safety planning, court accompaniment, and referrals for individuals affected by violence, trauma, or tragedy. Services are provided at no cost and are expected to reach more than 200 Barberton residents.
$15,000 to Portage Path Behavioral Health to expand the Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment Program.
- This program supports individuals experiencing both mental health and substance use disorders through integrated outpatient care, group therapy, and peer support. Portage Path is currently the only provider offering this type of treatment in Barberton.
$15,000 to Child Guidance & Family Solutions to enhance mental and behavioral health services, including training and therapeutic supplies.
- Funding supports advanced trauma and grief training for clinicians, along with therapeutic tools such as sensory and art-based materials. These enhancements strengthen services for the hundreds of Barberton residents served each year.
$12,525.27 to Humane Society of Summit County to deliver services through the MABEL Mobile Veterinary Clinic.
- MABEL provides affordable veterinary care—including spay/neuter services and vaccinations—directly in the community. This program helps keep pets healthy while reducing barriers for families who may not otherwise access care.

- This program delivers no-cost orthodontic treatment for children from low-income families. Beyond physical health benefits, treatment helps improve confidence and overall well-being.

$7,500 to Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to support the Barberton Direct Food Distribution Program, with additional support from the Merrillee and Jimmy Anthe Endowment Fund.
- Monthly distributions provide fresh produce and pantry staples to more than 1,000 households annually. The program plays a critical role in addressing food insecurity across the community.
$7,000 to Greenleaf Family Center to advance adolescent suicide prevention programming.
- This program reaches more than 1,300 Barberton middle and high school students through prevention education, while also training educators and supporting community-wide collaboration.
$6,500 to Ben Curtis Family Foundation to sustain the Birdie Bag Program, with additional support from donor funds.
- Birdie Bags provide weekend meals and snacks for students in Pre-K through 8th grade and help stock the high school pantry. The program also supports summer feeding efforts for families in need.
$5,000 to Vantage Aging to support Meals on Wheels services for Barberton seniors, with additional support from donor funds.
- In addition to providing thousands of meals annually, the program offers daily wellness checks and human connection, helping seniors maintain independence and quality of life.
$25,000 to Magical Theatre Company to provide the Barberton P.A.C.T. program.
- P.A.C.T. (Performing Arts Can Teach) brings live theatre experiences to Barberton students across multiple grade levels. For many students, this is their first exposure to professional theatre, sparking creativity and expanding learning beyond the classroom.
$15,000 to Salvation Army to deliver wrap-around services for Barberton residents.
- Services include meals, food pantry access, clothing, hygiene facilities, and case management. The Barberton Corps serves as a critical hub for more than 1,600 individuals annually, addressing essential needs and supporting stability.
$10,000 to ArtsNow to advance the 2026 ArtsForward program, leveraging matching support through the Knight Foundation.
- This grant contributes to a regional regranting initiative that supports arts and culture projects aligned with the Summit County Cultural Plan. Local artists and organizations in Barberton are prioritized for participation and funding.

- This regional initiative brings together public and private partners to strengthen early learning infrastructure, support childcare providers, and improve access for families. The work focuses on aligning programs, increasing quality, and expanding capacity across the early childhood system. By participating in this effort, Barberton is positioned to ensure more children enter kindergarten ready to learn, setting the stage for long-term academic success.
$50,000 to Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank to provide emergency support for Barberton foodbank partners, including additional year-end funding.
- When the federal government shutdown disrupted SNAP benefits in November, local food providers saw an immediate surge in need. This funding allowed Barberton’s network of food pantries and meal programs to respond quickly, ensuring families did not experience gaps in access to food. By stabilizing these frontline organizations during a critical moment, the Foundation helped protect thousands of residents from food insecurity and reinforced the strength of the community’s safety net.
$5,321 to BHS Golf Team to provide a golf simulator, with support from the Jeep Davis Olympic Hopeful Fund.
- The simulator allows student athletes to practice year-round, improving skill development and access to training regardless of weather conditions.
$5,000 to Scouting America to support Exploring program registrations for students.
- The program introduces youth to career pathways through hands-on experiences and mentorship, helping them explore future opportunities.
